You don’t have to understand God in
order to pray – as T. W. Hunt points out in his book The Life-Changing Power
of Prayer… “It is more important to
know God than to understand God…”
There are several reasons to pray….
One of the best reasons is that prayer
will actually help us to know Jesus better.
Paul actually prayed that all
believers would know Him better….
17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would
give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. (Eph 1:17
CSB)
It’s
clear in Genesis that God wants individual relationships with man - if He
didn't He wouldn't have made a special place to meet with man and have
conversation with him.
Genesis 3:8-9 indicates that there was a pattern of the
LORD and man meeting together….
8 Then the man and
his wife heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden at the time of
the evening breeze, and they hid themselves from the LORD God among the trees
of the garden. 9 So the LORD
God called out to the man and said to him, "Where are you?" (Gen 3:8-9 CSB)
Since
that special place no longer exists then we, as humans, need to make a special
place in our lives to meet with, to talk to, and to listen to God. This is done
through prayer.
While having a set time and place to
pray is a good idea, remember that we can pray anytime and anywhere.
Treasure your relationship journey in
getting to know God better,
Paul.
