Holidays can be stressful as we all know. As the New Year is just a few days away it reminds of the stress we seem to put on ourselves..... New Year resolutions.
People think about things that they want be better at, or things they want to change in their lives, then not too far down the calendar they realize that they're not doing what they've resolved to do. Then what? Well lots of folks beat themselves up over it and feel guilty. Yes, self-inflicted stress.
What I hope to do is take one day at time trying to live like Jesus. Be nice, be helpful, be a listener, be there for people when they need me.
A few verses come to mind.
The first is Jesus telling the crowd what the 2 greatest commandments are....
"This is the most important," Jesus answered: Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is One.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. "The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these."....Mark 12:29-31
Also quoting Jesus, the next verse is....
"Therefore don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own"..... Matthew 6:34
And finally, how can we do these things? The first part of Hebrews 12:2 says by.....
...."keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith"....
I have a sign in my yard, provided by a local church, for people passing by to see; it says.....
"Love God, love people, follow Jesus"
I think that sums up how I want to live in this coming New Year.
I hope you find joy in your journey to know God better,
Paul.
